Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points for Vina Robles Petite Sirah, Jardine 2003

This is Pet in all its full-bodied glory.  It's a dark, rich wine, stuffed with enormous plum, black currant, coffee and bitter chocolate flavors that finish absolutely dry.  Despite the size, it achieves ballance and harmony.  This is one of the best Petite Sirahs I've had this year.  Good now, and should hold for at least a decade.

NYC Wine Report Awards 3 1/2 Glasses to Vina Robles Signature 2003

Vina Robles Signature, a lovely blend of Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah and Syrah, leverages the ideal growing conditions found in Paso Robles, California for those three French varietals.  Deep, imposing crimson in the glass, powerful, complex and fruit-driven on the nose, it offers a rush of round dark berry flavors punctuated by soft oak, spicy angles and silky tannins capped by a long, elegant fade out.  Bordeaux meets Rhone.  Only in America.  For more information: www.nycwinereport.com

Jane Garvey: 95 Points for Vina Robles Roseum 2005

Medium-bodied dry rose; bright, reddish salmon color.  Intense floral aromas with fruit emphasizing strawberry and kiwi, and flavors that express red fruits (strawberry) and spice in extraordinary balance.  Hefty alcohol (13.5%) but the fruit holds its own.  Long crisp, clean, finish.  Great staying power and structure.  Grape: Syrah, from the Huerhuero Vineyard.  Outstanding value, slightly cool.

Quarterly Colorado Wine News

“The 2002 Signature, Paso Robles, $28, is a blend of 48% Petit Verdot, 33% Syrah and 19% Petite Sirah. Each was aged separately in French oak barrels, 30% new, for 12 months before blending and then for an additional 6 months after the blend was assembled. Inviting aromas of smoke, wet leather, black cherry, blackberry, and a mocha note introduce big flavors of the same but with the fruit first and the addition of anise and fine tannin. Everything carries through the long, medium-broad finish. Well balanced, structured and integrated. Good.”

Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate 2001 in Connoisseur's Guide

CONNOISSEUR'S GUIDE TO CALIFORNIA WINE - October Issue, 2003: Cabernet Sauvignon. Plentiful oak serves to lift and enrich the fairly direct, cherry-like aromas of this open and accessible offering and the wine is as friendly in the mouth with a sense of tactile polish and easy-to-taste flavors of oak-sweetened cherries. It is temperate in tannin and firmed in the finish by a twist of closing acidity, and if not quite filled up from the front to back, it fills the bill nicely as a fairly likeable middleweight Cabernet $19.00
