Ruby in color, this Zinfandel is medium-bodied with aromas of raspberry, plum and white pepper; layers of plum and chocolate lead into a smooth, creamy finish.

Vina Robles Unveils New Wine Packaging

We are excited to introduce updated packaging with a contemporary new look for our boutique wines. The new packaging complements our elegant, high quality wines while highlighting our family-owned and operated estate.

For the new design, we chose to center the brand script and modernized its look with a bolder, more refined font. The understated presence of gold foil and an embossed image of the Vina Robles Hospitality Center mirror our commitment to producing elegant, well-structured wines while celebrating our family’s Paso Robles estate.

A new bar at the bottom of each estate front label indicates vintage, appellation and alcohol percentage to provide you with easy to read key information. Bright colors and a more vibrant look were selected for the Vina Robles WHITE4 and RED4 wines to provide these young and fresh blends with a stronger shelf presence and broader consumer appeal.

The labels of the Cuvée Collection, a trio of limited-edition red blends crowning the Vina Robles portfolio, are set apart from the Estate wines by a delicate golden frame and black border.

The first Vina Robles wines to carry the new labels will be the 2012 RED4 and 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon – Estate. Both wines will be released on October 17 for the Paso Robles Harvest Wine Weekend.

“We are excited to celebrate our 15th harvest with new packaging that reinforces our commitment to quality,” said Hans – R. Michel, managing partner. “It not only beautifully complements the wine in the bottle but also puts greater emphasis on our Paso Robles family estate and our drive to evolve.”

2013 Albariño, Huerhuero:
The grapes for our Albariño hail from our estate Huerhuero Vineyard. This grape variety is grown in Spain (Rias Baixas region, Galicia) under the name Albariño and in Portugal (Vinho Verde region) as Alvarinho. Albariño is a thickskinned grape, which allows it to flourish in our Mediterranean climate.

We recently received some great accolades from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar.

Issue 171, November/December 2013

2010 Signature Paso Robles (51% cabernet sauvignon and 49% syrah): Deep ruby. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and violet, with a peppery overtone. Smooth and appealingly sweet, offering powerful black and blue fruit flavors and a hint of allspice. Finishes smooth and long, with velvety tannins adding back-end grip. This sexy wine is already drinking nicely. 90

2010 Suendero Paso Robles (79% cabernet sauvignon and 21% petit verdot from Adelaida Springs Ranch vineyard): Inky purple. A powerfully scented bouquet evokes dark fruit liqueur, incense and violet, plus a smoky overtone. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering plush blackcurrant and mulberry flavors with a hint of sweet chewing tobacco. The floral note comes back strong on the persistent finish, which features supple tannins and a hint of black pepper. 91

2009 Syrée Paso Robles (82% syrah and 18% petite sirah): Deep ruby. Sexy dark berry liqueur and violet pastille scents are lifted by a note of cracked pepper and show very good clarity. This juicy, seamless wine offers intense blackberry and cherry-cola flavors and a hint of vanilla bean. Closes supple and long, with subtle tannins and an echo of candied flowers. 91

2009 Suendero Paso Robles (95% cabernet sauvignon and 5% petit verdot): Inky purple. Black and blue fruit liqueur and licorice on the highly perfumed nose. Broad, deeply pitched blackcurrant and mulberry flavors pick up smoke and sweet chewing tobacco nuances with air, along with a hint of bitter chocolate. Closes with strong grip, chewy tannins and very good smoky persistence. 90

2010 Petite Sirah, Estate Paso Robles Inky ruby. Dark berries and licorice candy on the black pepper-accented nose. Dense, broad and smooth, with gentle acidity giving shape and lift to sweet blackberry, plum, cassis and licorice flavors. The broad finish features lush tannins and shows very good, spicy persistence. Pretty elegant for the variety, especially from Paso Robles. 90

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Paso Robles Dark ruby. Pungent aromas of dark berries, grilled meat, leather and pipe tobacco. Taut and focused on the palate, showing sweet dark berry, cherry and vanilla flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. Closes supple and gently tannic, with a hint of bitter cherry and good cut. 88

2012 White4 Huerhuero Paso Robles (61% viognier, 33% verdelho, 3% vermentino and 3% sauvignon blanc): Light gold. Aromas of nectarine and orange are complicated by subtle floral and ginger nuances. Fleshy but dry and precise, with good cut to its bitter citrus pith and peach pit flavors. Finishes on a refreshingly bitter note, with good focus and cut. 88

Vina Robles Wins First Place at the 14th Annual Winemakers' Cookoff

August 13, 2012

This past weekend, a team of Vina Robles grill masters and chefs participated in the 14th Annual Paso Robles Rotary Winemakers' Cookoff.  Under the guidance of winemaker Kevin Willenborg, the team prepared "Petite Sirah Glazed Pork Ribs with Signature Slaw." Once again, our ribs proved to be a favorite among the guests as well as the judges as we took home the First Place Judges Award out of a total of 26 participating local wineries. The People's Choice Award went to Mondo Cellars - congratulations!

This event has been a great success over the past years and all net profits are deposited into the Harlow Ford Foundation Fund.  From this fund, the Rotary Club of Paso Robles awards academic scholarships to Paso Robles High School seniors. Each year, the Club awards scholarships up to $30,000.

Thank you everyone for joining us and supporting this great cause.

What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a great bottle of wine - the reason we are adding two new exciting wines to the Vina Robles portfolio. We are happy to announce the release of our 2008 Syrée and the first vintage of our Segredo, Dessert Wine.

The 2008 vintage reflects the fifth anniversary of our limited edition Syrée red blend. The name Syrée - pronounce se-rey - is derived from Syrah and the French word for blend, cuvée. The grapes for this wine were selected from two highly regarded Southeastern Paso Robles vineyards: Syrah from Ryan Road and Petite Sirah from Creston Valley Vineyard. Our 2008 Syrée features aromas of ripe dark fruit with notes of rosemary and moccha.

Segredo - pronounce se-gredo - is a fortified wine crafted from the traditional Touriga grape variety. As the name implies (Segredo is Portuguese for secret), our secret is the addition of a small percentage of Petite Sirah that adds layers of richness to the wine. Enjoy it by itself after dinner or pair it with your favorite cheese, chocolate, or nuts.

Luana comes to us from Napa Valley, where she has worked for various ultra-premium wineries since 2004. Her extensive experience includes over 10 years of sales, marketing, and hospitality. In her new role, Luana will be responsible for managing the day to day operations at the Vina Robles Hospitality Center.

Kenna, a Central Coast native, comes to us from Southern California, where she managed and fully coordinated all special events for a Temecula-based winery. Her experience not only includes event coordination, but also interior as well as floral design. Kenna looks forward to helping you create the perfect event here at the Vina Robles Hospitality Center.

Vina Robles to welcome inaugural Mille Miglia North America Tribute Vintage Car Driving Event

Vina Robles will welcome dozens of vintage motorcars between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, as the inaugural Mille Miglia North America Tribute (MMNAT) comes to enjoy their lunch stop in the heart of Paso Robles wine country along its 1,000-mile course.  Spectators are welcomed to come out and marvel at the selection of oldtimers.

Bringing the 84-year-old spirit of the “Red Arrow” to the Golden State, the MMNAT will travel stunning coastal routes and historic back roads through California’s Central Coast, Monterey Peninsula, and San Francisco Bay Area. The event will depart from Santa Barbara the morning of Wednesday, October 26 and will return Friday evening on October 28.

Abiding by the elite standards set by the Italian Mille Miglia, the MMNAT will feature European and American vehicles manufactured between 1927 and 1957. Alfa Romeos, Austin-Healeys, Ferraris, and other treasured collector cars will take to the California roadways.

Dignitaries from the collector car world, along with Mille Miglia officials from Brescia and Milan will be in attendance during the event. Special Guest Participants include Sideways Author Rex Pickett, “Hell’s Kitchen” Chef Scott Liebfried, “Drive Away Cancer Now” founder John Nikas, and Sylvia Oberti, the first woman to ever race solo and complete the fabled Mille Miglia.

Vina Robles Receives Decanter Award in London

The annual Decanter World Wine Awards were presented at a dinner at the Royal Opera House last night, attended by the crème de la crème of the international wine industry.

Managing partner Hans-R. Michel traveled to London to accept the Regional Trophy - USA Red Bordeaux Varietal over £10 for the Vina Robles 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Huerhuero - Estate from Decanter Magazine's Steven Spurrier (right).  To read the full Decanter review, please click here.

During the evening, Decanter also announced the winners of the 25 International Trophies, chosen from over 12,000 entries, of which six went to Argentina.  For the first time in the history of the Decanter World Wine Awards a Chinese wine has also won an award at this highest level.

Vina Robles Supports Local Youth

A crowd of 300 got into the 1960s groove at Vina Robles this past weekend on behalf of the winery's annual British Invasion event to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County and the Paso Robles High School Bosters. Host Seth Blackburn of Q104.5 FM led through the evening featuring local cover band Unfinished Business, British car and vintage motorcycle show, silent auction, movie screenings, as well as Ye Ole English fish and chips, beer, and award-winning Vina Robles wines.

The event was a great success and together we were able to raise $3,000 for the charities.  We would like to thank everyone that came out and helped us support such a great cause.

13th Annual Paso Robles Rotary Winemakers' Cookoff - A Great Success!

Yesterday, a team of enthusiastic Vina Robles grill masters participated in the 13th Annual Paso Robles Rotary Winemakers' Cookoff.  This year's recipe creation "Ultimate falling-off-the-bone Pork Ribs with Ring of Fire hot sauce" proved to be another favorite with the judges as well as the guests and took home the excellent 4th place and Honorable Mention - Judges Award out of a total of 26 participating local wineries. First place went to our dear neighbors Mitchella Vineyard & Winery; congratulations!

This event has been a great success over the past years and all net profits are deposited into the Harlow Ford Foundation Fund.  From this fund, the Rotary Club of Paso Robles awards academic scholarships to Paso Robles High School seniors. Each year, the Club awards scholarships up to $30,000.

January 2011 in Paso Robles

We are off to a great start! The winter has been good to us so far. We had some periods of extended rainfall without causing flooding or erosion. Rainfall this season is between 8" at our Jardine Vineyard to 10" at Creston Vineyard and 18" at Adelaida Springs Ranch. For now, we are ahead of a normal rainfall pattern. However, El Nina might cut us short on rainfall for the rest of the rainfall season. We are using the drier phases to complete pruning and other vineyard work. However, rainfall is always welcome in our part of the world during the winter months.

About a month ago, we introduced Diego Gonzales, our winery intern from Uruguay. Well, Diego broke his arm while playing soccer over a recent weekend. Unfortunately, Diego will be “out for the season”. We all wish him a rapid recovery and a successful future in the wine business. We found a capable replacement in the meantime: Paul Jeffrey from Morgan Hill started a few days ago at our winery. He is shown at our basket press.

Harvest 2010 - Update

The "field lab" of Matthias Gubler, Winemaker.  Matthias is measuring the sugar content (Degree Brix) of Syrah at Camatta Hills Vineyard near Creston, CA.  The sugar content is just one of many factors that determine the harvest date.  But in this case, all appears just right, picking will start tomorrow.

  • Carter Collins, a Wine & Viticulture major at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, is assisting Sukhy Sran and his VMI team with coordinating work and overseeing our vineyards.
  • Diego Gonzales is our harvest intern at the winery this year. Diego was born and raised in Uruguay. Since graduating from the Liceo Atlantida, he has worked at many wineries around the world, including Uruguay, New Zealand, and Australia.

Vina Robles participated for the first time in this very popular local event. The signature creation, Bacon Powered HD Pork Minis was a big success and came perfectly paired with selected, award winning Vina Robles wines: White4, Red4, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The participating 35 wineries and 1400 +/- attendants had all a great time. Proceeds of this event benefit the Harlow Ford Scholarship Foundation. Visitors to the Vina Robles booth also had the opportunity to participate in a very attractive raffle. The Courtyard Marriott gratefully donated a 2-night stay for two at their Paso Robles Hotel. The winner, Geoffrey Chiapella, was picked during a drawing at the Vina Robles Tasting Room on Sunday, August 8. The picture below shows Chef Martin Columberg, Director of Hospitality with his wife Diana Columberg, Event Manager at the drawing.

The Only Thing that is Constant is Change

The Cabernet Franc of Block 3 in our Jardine Vineyard was originally planted in 1997. Unfortunately, it just was not able to produce the quality grapes we were looking for. This block has been replanted to Petite Sirah this spring. The picture shows the majestic “Vina Robles” oak tree depicted on our logo. On the right is a small block of Merlot and on the left the newly planted Petite Sirah. The young vines are protected by reusable sleeves. This replanting is adding 10.2 acres to the famous Petite Sirah on Jardine Vineyard. The vineyard borders the Links Golf Course; hence the name “Fore” for our newest Petite Sirah release. It is an incredible wine. You have to join our Signature Wine club in order to have the privilege to buy and enjoy a bottle. Join Here

Vina Robles assistant winemakers Craig & Julie Holme just spent some time at Benson Hills Vineyard in the Mount Benson - Limestone Coast region of South Australia. The small vineyard has been in the Holme family for over 100 years. Harvest is complete. Craig & Julie are making a small lot of truly hand-crafted 2010 Shiraz (see picture). Currently they are on the east coast of Australia visiting the Hunter Valley region and will fly back to the US over the weekend.

We quietly opened our new art gallery on April 17th. While we are still adding some finishing touches, you can already enjoy the art of our four featured artists daily, during regular opening hours of our tasting room (summer: 10 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.).

The Growing Season Starts at Vina Robles!

Bud break started in a few isolated areas last week and can now be noticed in several blocks of our vineyards. Temperature, soil type, and variety are the main factors of when bud break starts. We expect bud break in the Cabernet by next week. The pictures were taken this morning in our Viognier (left) and Syrah (right) blocks at the Huerhuero Vineyard.
