Hans Nef, with a lifelong passion for Bordeaux and Rhone style wines and the certainty that Paso Robles would become one of the preeminent wine regions of the world, began developing his estate vineyards in 1996. His background as a civil engineer explains his drive for quality and precision. Says Nef, "I have always dreamed of planting vineyards and owning a winery. Vina Robles will be part of our family for generations to come."

Matthias Gubler, Winemaker
As a boy Matthias worked on his family's Pinot Noir vineyard in Switzerland. He studied enology at Wadenswil and came to the US to apprentice at a small winery in Northern California. He has since worked in several wineries in Switzerland, Italy and France. Contends Gubler, “Paso Robles is perfectly suited to big Rhone style wines. Being here is the opportunity of a lifetime.”
